It starts with us: Why human connection is the key to climate action

Climate change is a complex problem – but one thing is clear: we can’t solve it alone. While technology and policy play vital roles, meaningful progress hinges on something much more human: how we learn, connect, and take action together.
Why human connection matters
So much of the climate challenge is about communication and changing our behaviours. We need to bring people with us to understand what’s at stake, to navigate uncertainty, and to move from awareness to action.
Facts alone aren’t enough. Emotions, values, and conversations shape what people do next – if we want to achieve climate goals, we need to build understanding not just with data, but with discourse and dialogue.
At Speak Carbon Collective, we’ve seen the difference it makes when people come together to learn and act. In workplaces, councils, universities, and communities, we use conversation-driven workshops to build the confidence, clarity, and agency people need to lead change from where they are.
How does SCC help connect humans?
Using our three staged model: Engage, Empower & Embed, we create meaningful, evidence-based climate engagement workshops and interventions tailored to different sectors and audiences. We have a large range of experience delivering accredited training across the UK and beyond, as one of only seven Carbon Literacy Training Organisations and with Climate Fresk accredited facilitators on-hand too.

Whether you’re a local authority developing a net zero strategy, a law firm navigating ESG goals, or an educator embedding climate into the curriculum – we can help. Our sessions are designed to:
- Turn climate complexity into meaningful action.
- Build team-wide awareness and shared purpose.
- Spark conversations that lead to long-term change.
We love to chat about what we do and how we can collaborate with others. Visit our website for further information or book a discovery meeting with one of us here.
Meet us in Leeds – 18–19 June!
We are very excited to be connecting with other humans at ReGeneration Earth in Leeds. Come find us at stand 39 to:
- Discover how interventions like Carbon Literacy can transform your team.
- Chat with our facilitators about what we do.
- Explore tools and stories from across our experience in delivering workshops.
Looking forward to seeing what new adventures in climate engagement might be on the horizon!

Andy Burnham’s speech signals a fundamental shift in how Britain thinks about growth
Andy Burnham's recent speech reflected a growing recognition that Britain's economic future will increasingly be shaped by the strength of its regions. As the clean industrial transition gathers pace, the challenge is no longer simply setting ambitious policy - it's creating the partnerships needed to deliver it. In this blog, Kate Hutchinson explores why regional leadership has become an economic necessity, what this means for the UK's future competitiveness, and why the next chapter of Britain's growth story will be written through collaboration between places, industry and investors.
