Learn a little more about them…
Can you tell us a little about your business and what inspired you to start it?
We are a commercial law firm and certified B Corp called Square One Law, with offices in Newcastle upon Tyne, Leeds and Darlington. We advise businesses at every stage of their journey, from start-ups and scale-ups to established organisations and multinationals. We support our clients across areas such as corporate, commercial, employment, property and dispute resolution.
We were founded with a clear purpose: to do law differently by going back to ‘square one’ and putting our clients and their needs up front and centre. We do this by giving an opinion, not just a list of legal options. Our lawyers are straight talkers and business champions who protect and support their client’s businesses as though they were their own, having their back and stepping up fearlessly to support them.
What does sustainability mean to you?
Our culture is built of the premise of ‘doing the right thing’ – by our people, our clients, business partners, our wider community and the planet. By protecting and helping our clients’ businesses to grow we can in turn effect change in the communities in which we live and work. Strong environments and by extension strong communities, build strong businesses.
What’s one sustainability goal you’re most excited about achieving this year?
Later this year we will be beginning the evidence gathering process for re-certifying as a B Corp in 2027. We welcome the new, higher standards that B Corp has introduced for certification and will do our very best to attain re-certification and hold ourselves accountable to the new high standards!
If your business had a “green superpower,” what would it be and how would you use it?
We would love our superpower is turning ambition into action, empowering businesses everywhere to elevate, expand and accelerate their environmental and social impact.
Outside of work, what’s one small, sustainable habit you practice in everyday life that others might find inspiring (or even surprising)?
We encourage all of our team members to be conscious of their digital carbon footprint. Two of our directors recently underwent training on the impact of carbon emissions produced by digital content, and we’ve since made a conscious effort to limit the size of our online collateral.
