Peter Laybourn Esq OBE

Creator of the National Industrial Symbiosis Programme (NISP), Founder and Chairman of International Synergies Limited (Chief Executive until April 2021).

From a first career in the aerospace industry Peter has for the last 25+ years been at the forefront of industrial symbiosis development across the world.

He was asked to design and deliver the first G7 Alliance for Resource Efficiency workshop on industrial symbiosis in 2015.

First degree in Economics and Ecology, Second degree Marine Environmental Management and an Honorary MSc.

A multiple award winner including edie.net Sustainability Leader of the Year and Birmingham City’s Lord Mayor’s award.

Chair of the UKMSN+ Advisory Group and Chief Technical Advisor on industrial symbiosis to UNDP.

Awarded the OBE in 2025 for services to the Green Economy and Climate Action through Industrial Symbiosis.

Peter’s career has also included spells with local government and the third sector.
